The new trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder star Christian Bale as the terrifying villain Gore the God Butcher, and it’s only going to send chills down the spine. Gore is seen in a white cloak, white make-up, and yellow eyes, and we can only imagine its impact on the big screen.

But, moving on to the trailer’s story, the clip opens with Korg (director Taika Waititi himself) telling us how Thor went from dad bod to god bod, all thanks to a grueling workout. Just as he is getting back on track, and becoming worthy of his Mjolnir, his ex-girlfriend Jane (played by Natalie Portman) steals his ‘thunder’ in more ways than one. And where there is Thunder, there must be some spark, and their old romance rekindles.

Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor, who must shed the extra weight he gained before the events of Avengers: Endgame and seek a new purpose in his life. The trailer opens with fan-favorite character Korg narrating the stories of Thor’s adventures. We see him reunited with his ex-girlfriend, Jane Foster, who will play Mighty Thor in the film, and get our first look at Christian Bale as the villainous Gore the God Butcher.

Gore looks like the Lord Voldemort of the Harry Potter movies with skeletal white skin and a menacing tone. The trailer features the hit Guns N’ Roses song Sweet Child O’ Mine playing in the background, as did the teaser, with Thor and Jane’s humorous exchanges, some gorgeous fantasy world-building, and Bale’s intense performance.

Love and Thunder are directed by Taika Waititi, who revitalized the franchise with the critically and commercially successful Thor: Ragnarok. The film re-imagined Shakespeare’s grim hero as a wise-cracking oaf. Love and Thunder also bring back Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, while Russell Crowe came in as Zeus. Guardians of the Galaxy return Chris Pratt, Pom Clementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper.

Marvel’s last release was “Doctor Strange” in the Multiverse of Madness, which recently crossed the $800 million mark at the worldwide box office. Thor: Love and Thunder will be released on July 8.
