Shakira Statement:Â Shakira was recently accused of tax fraud, due to which a Spanish court rejected singer Shakira’s appeal in the tax fraud case. Spanish prosecutors accused Shakira of failing to pay 14.5 million euros (US$15.5 million) in taxes on income earned between 2012 and 2014. Shakira also appeared in court after the allegations. Shakira has spoken on the tax evasion case and dismissed all these allegations as false.
Doesn’t come under tax net: Shakira
In a media interview, Shakira, while talking about the tax evasion case, said, ‘She does not come under the tax net because she did not spend 183 days in the country. The Colombian singer says she was busy fulfilling her professional commitments worldwide..she does not have to pay any money to the Spanish government’.
Further, pop singer Shakira said, ‘I had already paid everything related to their claim before filing the lawsuit, till date I have no dues from them and I am one of the four biggest tax expert firms in the world ( PricewaterhouseCoopers), so I was confident that I was doing things right and transparent from day one.
I have evidence to support my case – Shakira.
The singer continued on this issue, saying, ‘The Spanish government does not have evidence to substantiate these fictitious claims, as they usually do. They have tried to influence the public, put pressure on the media, and damage their reputation. Has resorted to pressing campaigns to threaten him so that the agreement can be persuaded.
The singer finally said, ‘It is known to all that the Spanish tax authorities have been doing this to me and to many celebrities like Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar. It is also an injustice to the regular taxpayer. It is just their way. But I have enough evidence to support my case, and justice will prevail in my favor.
