Ripley’s says Kim Kardashian Didn’t Ruin Marilyn Monroe’s Dress At The Met Gala

This week, social media started to show posts accusing Kim Kim Kardashian and Marilyn Monroe of destroying her iconic dress at the Met Gala. You’d be wrong to think that the reality star has defaced Mount Rushmore. Ripley’s Believe It or not! Who loaned Kardashian that dress is trying to correct the record.

Ripley posted a statement to its website stating that Kim K’s famous walk up the Met Gala stairs has “not caused damage to Marilyn Monroe’s ‘Happy Birthday’ gown from 1962.”
Kardashian wore the dress for just a minute. She used it to make her late entry at the Gala. Then she changed into a replica.

“I am extremely respectful of the dress and what American history means to me,” Kardashian stated to Vogue. “I wouldn’t want to sit or eat in it or risk any damage to it. I won’t wear the type of makeup I normally wear.”

The dress was sold to Ripley’s in 2016 at an auction for $4.8million. It had been traded several times over the years. Ripley’s reports that the dress has been worn over the past 50 years were detailed in a 2017 report. This included “puckering at its back by the hooks or eyes” and “several seams being pulled and worn.”

Kim Kardashian wearing the Happy Birthday dress at the Met Gala has been hotly contested,” she continued. “But the fact is that she didn’t believe in any way damage the garment.”

Amanda Joiner, Ripley’s Vice President of Publishing and Licensing, was present with the dress on the day of the Gala and in transit from Orlando to New York. According to the statement, she also commented on the fashion disaster, saying that “From the bottom of The Met steps, where Kim wore the dress, to its top, it was in the same condition it began in.”

In addition to answering many questions on the internet like “Really Ripley’s?”, the famed memorabilia collector posted slides to Instagram. Was it worth it? The latter was answered by the fact that Kardashian did not pay Ripley’s for the dress but made donations on behalf of the company to two charities in Orlando.

There you go. This 60-year-old dress doesn’t seem to be much older than 30. It’s been through a lot, and I can only climb a few flights of stairs. Believe It or Not! The dress will be displayed at the Hollywood location in its current condition through the fall. Kardashian may still be permitted to view it.
