We are accustomed to seeing Chris Hemsworth in an action movie, be it the famous superhero Thor or the lifesaving person in the movie ‘ Extraction.’ But breaking the stereotype, he is now starring in a dark humorous psychological thriller film ‘ Spiderhead,’ directed by Joseph Kosinski.
The audience will witness Chris Hemsworth playing the role of a pharmaceutical genius who uses prison as his own experimental playground! Talking about the trailer, showed ‘the pharmaceutical genius’ giving some kind of drugs to the inmates saying that their little experiment could save not one but many lives. However, this prison is not the one you have seen in other movies. There are no bars, lockups, or orange jumpsuits in this prison.
And the inmates or let’s say, ‘volunteers,’ are free to be themselves. They go to their home after the end of the day and live a normal life, no matter how much their heads are messed up after the experiments conducted on them! They are given regular doses of mind-altering medications, made by our pharmaceutical guy (Chris Hemsworth), through the surgically implanted device in return for reduced sentences.
But there’s a limit to everything. There comes a point when they are so disturbed that it is difficult for them to be themselves! For those who have not watched the trailer yet, this trailer depicts individuals devolving themselves into drug-induced sex and violence, be it self-harm or to others.
Spiderhead – Official Trailer Released
However, the inmates, played by Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollet, fight back, not against Chris Hemsworth, but against the mind-altering drug. They try hard not to let that medication mess up their mind but all in vain. Also, before giving the medication, Chris Hemsworth asks a two-word question’ “Drip On?” and his subjects reply, “Acknowledge.”
The movie is directed by Joseph Kosinski, who has directed Tron: Legacy and Oblivion in the past and will release his Tom Cruise sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, later this month.
What type of medication is our main lead experimenting with? What does he mean by saving more than one life? Is he a hero or has a dark side attached to him? What does drip on mean? To find the meaning and answers to all the questions, you will have to wait till June 17, as that’s when the movie will release on the OTT platform, Netflix.
